Emma van Herk

About

Emma van Herk’s artistic practice takes shape through questioning the structures of textiles and how they can present a framework for theorising and reflecting on relationships with the body, kinship and materiality. Her fascination lies in the detailed structure of textiles and their techniques, following their movement and seeing how they create a web of entanglements. In her work she aims to connect topics in such webs of entanglements, linking different matters to create new relations and concepts. All whilst relating the process of making to her direct surroundings, local plants, the body and the materials she’s using. In that way, she sees herself as a gatherer and connecter.
